What to Expect When Bringing Your Baby for Craniosacral Therapy

Overview
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on treatment designed to release tension in your baby’s body, particularly around the head, neck, and spine.

Initial appointments are typically 60 minutes, and follow-up appointments usually last around 45 minutes.

Before you bring your baby to a craniosacral therapy appointment
Please bring any comfort items that help your baby settle, such as a favourite toy, blanket, or comforter. It is also helpful to dress your baby in comfortable clothing.

Treatment can still take place if your baby is asleep or nursing or feeding, so there is no need to plan too much around sleeping or feeding schedules before attending.

During the craniosacral therapy appointment for your baby
I will ask about your baby’s birth, feeding habits, and any concerns you may have. This helps tailor the session to your baby’s individual needs.

I will use a very light touch, less than the weight of a 5-pence piece, to assess and release tension.

Treatment can take place in a way that suits your baby best, whether that is in your arms, on the treatment table, or a combination of both. Babies can also remain asleep or continue feeding while treatment takes place.

Treatment response
Some babies may sleep, wriggle, or cry briefly during treatment. Crying can be a form of emotional release and may be part of the healing process.

Post-treatment expectations for your baby
After the session, you may notice that your baby is more tired or sleepy than usual. Parents often report improved sleep, improved feeding, and a baby who seems calmer and more content.

Changes may be immediate, or they may develop over the following few days. If further sessions are needed, I will discuss a suitable care plan with you.
